Case Studies
"The speed of the saw is amazing - that's what sold us on it. It's a very safe machine... it's well made... I love it. I'd highly recommend it to anybody needing a right-of-way cleared. It's fast, and safe and very effective.
Plus, it's $54,000 worth of machinery vs. $100,000, and a 20-year tree trimming cycle vs. a 4-year cycle. Even I can figure that one out!"

Just listen to Laybin as he explains exactly how he's done all this and more with the remarkable new Marshall Tree Saw. After reading this, if it sounds like a piece of equipment you'd like to get your hands on, just give me a call at Toll Free 1.877.SPIN.NOT (774.6668) and I'll take it from there. Sincerely, Danny Dunagan Sales/Marketing Manager Laybin, why did you buy the Marshall Tree Saw? One of our consumers was using it to thin out the cedar population on his ranch. We saw that the speed of the saw was amazing; that's what sold us on it. Plus how big of a tree you could actually take down with it. What do you like most about it?
"Before, our cycle on our tree trimming has been about 4 years - trimming a 6 to 10 ft right-of way below our lines. That would give us about a 4-year cycle before we'd have to go back and trim again.
This (the Marshall Tree Saw) should give us... well, we're banking on a 15 - 20 year cycle." What I like most is its versatility. You can reach up to 17 feet and cut, and you can cut a tree with a 30-inch diameter. Once a tree's pushed, we have a sprayer that's built on the saw so we can spray the stump, whether we cut it at ground level or below, to keep the regrowth from coming back. Another thing I like about it is that you can use the saw head as a pushing device, where you can actually push and pile the brush right after you cut it. It's made to where it'll handle that. Where do you use it? We use it mainly underneath our right-of-ways on our distribution electrical lines. We clear 20 ft right-of-ways . clear-cut 'em and pile 'em. Then we either leave it for wildlife or come back and burn it - whichever the consumer allows us to do. Right now we're using it underneath a 3-phase feeder line, where we're cutting live oaks, mesquites, and blackjack trees. How has Marshal Tree Saw changed the way you operate? Before, our cycle on our tree trimming has been about 4 years - trimming a 6 to 10 ft right-of way below our lines. That would give us about a 4-year cycle before we'd have to go back and trim again. This (the Marshall Tree Saw) should give us . well, we're banking on a 15 - 20 year cycle. And the amazing thing is, we just have one man out there with this Marshall Saw, a relatively cheap pick-up, and a gooseneck trailer - about $54,000 tied up. With our other way, we run 4 men out there with a bucket truck and a chipper ... probably about $100,000 worth of equipment. Four men paid to feed this chipper: one of 'em trimming it and the other 3 dragging it out and throwing it in the chipper.

Now, we've got one man that operates this machine, so we're only paying one worker. And believe it or not, he can actually clear more footage in a day's time clear-cutting than a right-of-way crew can. How much more footage can you clear? Generally, about 500 feet a day. It matters what conditions you're in of course, but right now we can do up to 3,000 feet a day. 1,200 feet a day has been our lowest. What do your crews say about it? They love it ... especially the right of way that they get out of it. What really is beneficial is when our maintenance crews come in behind it . changing out structures, poles, running new conductor or what have you . now they've got a clear right-of-way to do their work. And they don't have to worry about the wires hanging up in the trees, or having to cut their way in to get to a pole. They've got a clear right-of-way that they can drive down. What about maintenance? As far as daily maintenance, before you start out in the morning, you grease it and make sure it's full of oil. But that's just very little time ... 15 minutes and your done. Also, we designate about an hour and a half each Friday morning to go through and do the maintenance. Most of the maintenance is on the Bobcat, or the skid steer itself - cleaning out the radiator, things like that. I guess you'd say it's beefed up enough that you don't have any problems with it. It's well made; it is a good machine. We've had very little problem with it. The only thing we've had wrong was a hydraulic hose, and we actually did that ourselves from hitting it against a stump.
"Safety is very important. The good thing about this is, nothing runs at high speed. It's all very slow speed, not even a complete rotation on your saw. If you get into a bind with anything, it can always be reversed.
How about the safety factor?
So it's a very safe machine. I love it. There's not a lot of things on it that a guy could get hurt on." Safety is very important. The good thing about this is, nothing runs at high speed. It's all very slow speed, not even a complete rotation on your saw. If you get into a bind with anything, it can always be reversed. The actual head of this is made with a guard on it that will sheer the trees off to one side or the other, keeping them from falling on the unit. So it's a very safe machine. I love it. There's not a lot of things on it that a guy could get hurt on. Do you feel like you've gotten a good return on your investment? We sure do. We've had awful good support from the Marshall Saw people ... we've had awful good response from them. We can call them at any time and they'll be down . 'Johnny-On-The-Spot'. They are very good to return your calls; any questions they'll be good to answer them. They put on an excellent demonstration for us. How has the saw performed vs. what you expected? I'd say above and beyond. I'd highly recommend it to anybody who's needing a good right-of-way cleared . or a pasture cleared. It's a good machine. It's fast, and safe and very effective. Are you going to buy another one? I hope we do! That's our plan. Like I said, it's $54,000 vs. $100,000 of machinery, plus a 4-year cycle vs. a 20-year cycle. Even I can figure that one out!
Check it out! Get your hands on one of these amazing new Marshall Tree Saws, and see for yourself how you can dramatically lower your maintenance costs - and make the job faster, safer, and easier.
